You may or may not be aware that there is a request from a developer to our Manatee County Board of Commissioners to build a gas station on the corner of 44th Avenue and White Eagle Boulevard which is less than 500 feet from Mona Jain Middle School and B.D. Gullett Elementary School.

This poses a serious safety risk to children and families who walk, bike, and play throughout this residential area. Hundreds of students travel this route daily and increased traffic from fuel trucks and constant vehicle turnover would make an already busy intersection even more dangerous. A school zone should be surrounded by family-focused spaces – not by gas pumps and fuel trucks.

A gas station in a school zone will lead to increased traffic, noise and light pollution, and will disrupt the character and peace of our community. This plot of land is alarmingly close to seven local schools and poses a major safety issue for our children. We need to stand together to protect the safety of our children and the integrity of Lakewood Ranch and Bradenton.
